The automotive market is in the spotlight as Tesla begins production on the new Model Y facelift at its new Gigafactory in Germany. This new model is not just a basic change but a rebirth of the Model Y electric SUV that has garnered much attention recently. Last week saw the debut of the product that has social media users of auto enthusiasts, especially those of Tesla, yearning for the car in different markets like Australia and China. Now, it looks like European consumers will get the opportunity to own this shiny, improved version shortly.

Tesla’s Goal for Europe
Tesla’s goal of becoming a significantly larger automaker with production facilities in various geographic locations is underscored by its choice of building the new revision of the Model Y in Germany. Since 2022, the Gigafactory in Berlin has been assembling cars, and now it is up to it to pump out the updated Model Y.
As cited in the German newspaper Handelsblatt, Tesla had been planning to start the production of the updated car on January 14, 2025. The car, also known within the company as “Juniper,” has caused a rather impressive stir in the automotive world.
Tesla confirmed the news through Electrek, which claimed that Tesla started production at the Berlin plant. This revelation suggest that European customers could begin to take delivery of the new Model Y in their local market within a short space of time.
Tesla Model Y Facelift Updates
The newer model of the electric SUV, the Model Y, has many reparations from the previous ones, one of which is exterior changes. Pinning its hopes on the angular lines of the Cybertruck and the glossy polish of the Tesla robotaxi Cybercab, the Model Y facelift has also adopted something very reminiscent of the Cybertruck—a leading LED strip. Beneath the front valance, there is also a design similar to the one in Model 3 Highland to enhance the appearance of a facelift model.
At launch, there will be two models of this facelift version available on the market. The standard range version will be rear-wheel driven, while the Long Range variant will use all-wheel drive. However, Tesla’s specifics regarding battery capacities remain undisclosed.
However, the WLTP range has been communicated as 466 km for the base model and 551 km for the estimated range of Model Y Long Range AWD. Power from the charging systems is maintained at 250 kW.
Potential Significances for the European Market
Laying down the Model Y facelift in a German plant is great news for Tesla’s customers across Europe. It is revealed that the market demand for electric vehicles has been increasing continuously, and the model is in high demand. Given that the Model Y has arguably the most striking design of any car on the road today, the facelift version should receive even more attention due to the updates and redesign.
Tesla will ensure that more consumers will be able to select a variant of the new base Model Y or even the Long Range AWD to customise to their needs. In addition, the high range figures will be an incentive to environmentally conscious individuals searching for a functional, green means of transport.
