Rivian has started the R2 story with its highest-output configuration, introducing the Performance model as the first version scheduled to reach customers this spring. The opening variant arrives with the Launch Package and a starting price of $57,990, while several less expensive trims are already outlined for later release.
The initial R2 trim has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, which is developing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque. This is equivalent to a sprint distance of 0 to 100km/h in a remarkable time of 3.6 seconds. Power is controlled, and the carmaker provides eight modes: Conserve, All-Purpose, Snow, Rally, All-Terrain, Soft Sand, Launch Mode, and Sport.
The top-end Performance trim also has Esker Silver exterior paint and 21-inch Liquid Tungsten alloy wheels, with the interior being a Black Crater Signature with Birch wood inlays.

Compass Yellow brake calipers and exterior badging identify the version from outside. Heated and ventilated front seats are included, along with heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and 12-way power adjustment for both front occupants, with lumbar support. A Rivian Premium Audio setup with four speakers, two midwoofers, and two subwoofers is standard, while Dynamic Adventure Lighting brings Adaptive High Beam and Matrix LED headlights. The Rivian Torch flashlight remains housed in the driver’s door.
The Launch Package adds more than naming rights. Buyers get Autonomy+ for the vehicle’s full lifetime, a Rivian Green anodized key fob, and access to Launch Green exterior paint. The optional Tow Package lifts towing ability to 4,400 pounds.

Underneath, the R2 sits on Rivian’s new mid-size platform and is said to weigh nearly 2,000 pounds less than the R1. The Performance model uses an 87.9-kWh battery and can travel up to 330 miles before recharging. Charging itself is simplified by an NACS port, giving access to the Supercharger network. Another R2 variant—the Standard RWD Long Range—targets an EPA-rated 345 miles.
That future lineup is already defined, with the R2 Premium version already on its way to the market later on this year, with prices starting from $53,990. The model will come with an output of 350 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque; the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h will be done in 5.9 seconds. More than that, Rivian will also introduce the Standard variant in the first half of 2027, with a price tag of $45,000.
