Interior – Spacious
The EQS SUV doesn’t compromise on luxury within its interior. With a 108.4kWh battery both, the 450 and 580 variants offer motor setups for all-wheel drive allowing for ranges of up to 364 miles for the 450 model and 363 miles for the 580 model. You also have options like AMG Line Premium Plus or Business Class, both providing a combination of cutting-edge technology and comfort that ensures every journey is an indulgent experience.
Size and Space
Staying true to its SUV classification, the EQS SUV offers generous space inside. The second row mirrors the opulence of the seats, creating a sense of expansiveness throughout the cabin. Despite its dimensions, navigating the UK roads can be challenging due to its width, with passengers perceiving a substantial presence even when seated in the back.
The MBUX infotainment system although it serves its purpose, appears to become more complex as the car size increases. Trying to navigate a screen while maintaining stability on the road requires a balance and the user-friendliness of the system may not scale seamlessly with the car`s dimensions.
Power Underneath
When it comes to performance, the EQS SUV offers two power options, the 450 with 355bhp and the 580 with a 536bhp. However, due to its weight (2.8 tonnes), the SUV’s dynamic capabilities are somewhat hindered. The steering feels unusually light, which can make it feel unpredictable at high speeds, and while rear-wheel steering is beneficial for parking, it adds to the twitchiness of the steering which eventually diminishes the driving experience.
Any Flaws?
The brakes of the EQS SUV have some quirks that may undermine driver confidence during braking. There are also concerns about the air suspension of the EQS SUV that arise despite its smoothness at high speeds. When driving on roads or encountering bumps, the SUV tends to pitch and sway which disrupts its expected stability. Balancing the desire for a ride with control remains a challenge that the EQS SUV falls slightly short of overcoming.
Value Dilemma
The EQS SUV’s hefty price tag raises expectations for its performance and overall package. While it tries to justify its costs with a range of trims and a tech-filled interior, the less-than-impressive dynamics and underwhelming driving experience make us question its value proposition.
